Q: Why can't MSU just allocate more tuition dollars toward MAES and MSUE to cover a budget cut?
A: MAES and MSUE do not receive any of their funding from tuition dollars. Both organizations receive funding from the State, the federal government and private/public grants.
Q: Why would cuts to MAES and MSUE budgets affect the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources?
A: Together, MAES and MSUE funding comprises 70 percent of the MSU College of Agriculture and Natural Resources budget. A cut would cripple the ability of CANR to support Michigan’s agriculture and natural resource sector or provide unique agriculture and natural resource courses and degrees not offered at any other Michigan university or college.
Q: These programs are important to me. How can I prevent them from being effected?
A: Thank you! Visit our How to Help page.
Q: I live in the Detroit, Flint or another urban area. These are programs for farmers and small town people, right? Why should I care?
A: MSU Extension has a presence in every county in Michigan, and MAES has 15 locations statewide that conduct cutting edge research in food, the environment and health. Read about specific impacts in urban areas including unique programs in Detroit and Flint. You may be surprised at the wide variety of economic development and community revitalization programs that MSUE supports, along with widespread health and nutrition and youth and family programs that are supported by MSU in your community.
