EAST LANSING, Mich. – Jennifer Berkey has been named district coordinator for Michigan State University Extension District 3 encompassing Antrim, Benzie, Grand Traverse, Kalkaska, Leelanau and Manistee counties. Berkey has been the interim district coordinator since October 1, 2014. She replaced Patrick Cudney, who was named MSU Extension associate director of operations. Berkey will officially begin in the permanent capacity of district coordinator September 1, 2015.

“District coordinators build relationships with communities and stakeholders while partnering to identify challenges, priorities and resources in the communities they serve,” Cudney said. “We are confident that Jennifer will continue to contribute her knowledge, creativity, problem-solving and leadership to this position as she has done throughout this transition period.”

Berkey has a long history of exceptional engagement and outreach on behalf of MSU Extension both in her role as interim district coordinator and as an educator specializing in food safety, nutrition and physical activity, as well as her knowledge and rapport with the families and communities she served for 16 years. Berkey’s foundational connections and fostering of team cohesion with MSU Extension staff members enabled a successful transition to her interim role and continuation of momentum in the important work occurring in District 3 counties.

“I have enjoyed engaging staff members, elected officials and residents as interim district District for the past 10 months,” Berkey said. “I look forward to continuing in this role as well as building capacity and partnerships with local stakeholders.”

Berkey has a Bachelor of Science in family and consumer resources from the University of Arizona and a Master of Science in administration from Central Michigan University.
