Entries Due May 27 for Summer Junior Livestock Events

EAST LANSING, Mich. -- June will be a busy month for young exhibitors of beef, hogs and sheep in Michigan.
           
The annual Michigan Junior Beef Show and Beef Showcase (open show) and the Michigan Junior Sheep Spectacular and Northern Exposure Club Lamb Show are scheduled for June 13-15. The Spartan Classic Junior Hog Show and Spartan Jackpot Show are scheduled for June 20-22.
           
All events will be held at the Michigan State University (MSU) Pavilion for Agriculture and Livestock Education, located at the intersection of Farm Lane and Forest Road in East Lansing.
           
The Junior Beef Show promises a full weekend schedule, starting off with a beef showmanship clinic presented by the Michigan Junior Livestock Society board at 8 p.m. June 13. A graphic design contest, skillathon, herdsmen’s quiz, and showmanship and junior-owned steer and breeding and market heifer classes take place June 14. Open division classes show in the Beef Showcase June 15.
           
Taking place concurrently with the beef events will be the Michigan Junior Sheep Spectacular and the Northern Exposure Club Lamb Show. On June 14, contestants will compete in the shepherd’s quiz, sheep skillathon, sheep graphic design contest, showmanship, and breeding sheep and market lamb classes. MSU Northern Exposure Club Lamb Show events will take place June 15: shepherd’s quiz and skillathon, essay contest, graphic design and photography contest, market lamb classes and showmanship.
           
The Spartan Classic Junior Hog Show and the Spartan Jackpot Show will take place the following weekend, June 20-22. On June 21, youth can compete in the swine pigathon, skills and graphic design contests, showmanship, and prospect pig and market hog classes. The Spartan Jackpot Hog Show takes place June 22.
