July Children’s Garden Events Teach, Entertain

EAST LANSING, Mich. -- July brings outdoor fun in the Michigan 4-H Children’s Gardens at Michigan State University -- hands-on learning activities and events for children and families.
July 8, enjoy the beauty of nature while listening to tales about new and old storybook favorites such as Alice, Peter and Pooh Bear. Story time runs from 10 a.m. until noon. This event costs $5 per child.
Discover a different ethnic cuisine each week with the International Garden Chefs on July 7, 21 and 28 from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. Taste interesting edibles from Hispanic, African American and Asian traditional cuisines. This event is for children 8 years and up. The cost is $10 per session per child.
Learn how to care for a garden with “Dr. Norm” during the Kid Curator program July 9, 16 and 30 from 10 a.m. until noon. This event is for children 8 years and older. The cost per child is $20 for all three days or $7 per session.
Celebrate with an entire day of bugs on July 31. From 10 a.m. until noon, the children’s garden will host its annual tribute to garden insects. The MSU Bug House will bring an amazing collection of insects from all over the world. Other topics will include collecting bugs, observing bugs, eating bugs and writing bug poetry. This event costs $5 per child.
There is no charge for adults to attend these events as long as they are accompanying a child. More summer activities will continue into August, providing yet another month of learning opportunities for kids and their families.

Without a token, parking costs $3 per vehicle Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sign up for Friends of the 4-H Children’s Gardens for just $36 and receive free parking all summer. Forms are available in the Information Station in the 4-H Children’s Gardens or online at http://www.mi4hfdtn.org/downloads/FriendsCGBroch.pdf.
