July 6-10 at Northwestern Michigan College, Traverse City -- main portion of event takes place from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Wednesday in Scholars Hall. E-mail steph143@msu.edu or adanielski@asafishing.org for a complete agenda
Michigan State University Extension and Project FISH are partnering with the Future Fisherman Foundation of Alexandria, Va. (www.futurefisherman.org), to hold the sixth annual PhyshED training. More than 80 educators will attend from as far away as Alaska, including educators from 12 Michigan schools. PhyshED workshops train educators to design and deliver fishing-related programming as part of their regular curriculum to get young people more involved in the outdoors.
Participants will attend sessions on fly tying, fly fishing, spin casting, safe paddling and aquatic conservation, and will have opportunities each day from 6 to 8 p.m. to practice what they have learned with hands-on experiences such as charter fishing and creating fishing tackle. Wednesday’s dinner (5 p.m., Northwoods Café, West Hall) will feature fish that participants have caught.
