EAST LANSING, Mich. -- The latest in forage equipment and research projects will be on display July 25 at the annual Forage Demonstration Day held at the Michigan State University (MSU) Lake City Experiment Station. The demonstration day will run from 10:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m.
The demonstration day will feature the current research being conducted at the station, including work being done on the potential use of Teff grass in Michigan. Several equipment dealers will also be in attendance demonstrating the latest in cutting, raking, baling and inverting equipment.
“We encourage anyone with an interest in forage production in the state to attend this field day,” says Janice Rumph, MSU Extension north region livestock educator. “The research we are doing on Teff production offers some new alternatives to forage production in Michigan that we think producers will find interesting. The line-up of equipment that day will cover all aspects of quality forage production, so there will be something for everyone.”
Participation in the field day is free. Lunch will be provided. The Lake City Experiment Station is located just south of Lake City and one quarter mile east of M-55/M-66 on Jennings Road.
For more information, contact Rumph at 231-839-3001 or Missaukee County MSU Extension Director Dave Stroud at 231-839-4667.
The MSU experiment stations are part of a network of campus laboratories and off-campus field research facilities that make up the Michigan Agricultural Experiment Station at Michigan State University. Research projects at the field stations range from forestry, field crops and fruit to beef and dairy cattle, potatoes and equine breeding. Each station focuses its research on the agricultural, natural resources and rural community needs of its particular location.
