What:   2009 State 4-H Horse Show

More than 650 young equestrians representing every Michigan county will mount up and display their horsemanship skills in more than 275 classes during the 2009 State 4-H Horse Show, Aug. 7-9, at the Michigan State University (MSU) Pavilion for Agriculture and Livestock Education.

4-H members from each county are chosen to participate in English, dressage, western and gymkhana events during the three-day equine extravaganza.

Why:    The objectives of the State 4-H Horse Show are to develop leadership, initiative, self
reliance, sportsmanship and other traits of character in young people, in addition to increasing
each equestrian’s individual knowledge of horsemanship.

When:    Aug. 7-9

Aug. 7 - Gymkhana showmanship (9 a.m.)
Aug. 8 - Senior showmanship, dressage rail classes, hunter hack (9 a.m.)
Aug. 8 - Miniature horse show (10 a.m.)
Aug. 8 - Western and English riding evening performance (6 p.m.)
Aug. 9 - Junior showmanship, dressage rail classes, hunter hack (9 a.m.)
Aug. 9 - Proud Equestrian Program (P.E.P.) show (10 a.m.)
