EAST LANSING, Mich. -- Though harvest hasn’t really started, farmers can get ahead of the marketing game by attending “Launch your Post-Harvest Marketing Plan,” a Michigan State University (MSU) Extension program set for Sept. 1 from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Mason.

The program will offer participants a look at post-harvest exit strategies and give them a chance to write their own marketing plans. They’ll also have the chance to take part in a fast-paced and entertaining market simulation exercise.

The session will be led by Ed Usset, a grain marketing specialist for the Center for Farm Financial Management at the University of Minnesota and the coordinator for the Minnesota Master Marketer Program.

“Ed has given presentations at programs in the past, and he does a great job of giving talks that are very practical,” says Dan Hudson, MSU Extension educator based in Ingham County and the program’s coordinator. “He uses market fundamentals to show farmers how to develop sensible marketing plans that they can actually put into practice.”

The $15 registration fee includes lunch and all materials. Preregistration is requested. To sign up, call 517-676-7207 or e-mail cvernon@ingham.org.

“Launch your Post-Harvest Marketing Plan” is sponsored by GreenStone Farm Credit Services, ADM, Crop Production Services and Farm Bureau Insurance.
